Our Upper Elementary curriculum is designed to be responsive to the academic, social, and emotional needs of children ages 9 -12 years old (grades 4-6). The classroom is a true learning laboratory where students discover, explore, and expand their knowledge of academic subjects of interest.

Students in our Upper Elementary Program benefit from individualized work plans which allow them to learn how to use time effectively and to make appropriate choices. Students continue to work with concrete materials while building on this foundation to develop a more abstract understanding of various concepts in a broad range of studies including Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Geography, Spanish, Computers, Music, Art, Physical Education, Library and Research.

Endeavor Montessori is working toward accreditation from the American Montessori Society (AMS). Students in our Upper Elementary Program are led by an AMS certified elementary teacher. Our whole-person approach to education offers an opportunity for children to grow in all domains of development leading students to be well-prepared to tackle any academic or social challenge and to flourish in a wide variety of settings.

The Upper Elementary Environment

Our students learn how to work both independently and collaboratively through a combination of group work and independent study. Our nurturing classroom setting offers a wide range of experiences, ensuring that students with different learning styles will remain interested and engaged. Weekly community meetings provide a forum for children to be active participants and sharpen their decision-making and problem-solving skills.

The Upper Elementary Curriculum

The curriculum and instruction offered at Endeavor Montessori utilizes Montessori materials and practices but still follows national and state curriculum standards. Subjects like science, literature, math and art are seamlessly integrated into the Montessori curriculum. From English to mathematics, writing skills are emphasized across the board, and our dynamic science curriculum involves exciting hands-on experiments which spark each child’s natural curiosity.

Beyond the Upper Elementary Classroom

In addition to the Montessori Upper Elementary curriculum, the program features outside classroom space, a language component, and a diverse environment celebrating the richness of our multicultural community. Planned field trips and visitors to our classroom support related areas of study and help students build connections between what they are learning and how it relates to their future, and the world around them.

In addition to academic advances in reading and mathematics, skills in time management and a sense of accountability are fostered as children learn how to maintain a balance between work and socialization. Students emerge as self-motivated, independent learners equipped with sound work habits.
